The Nazareth College Community commemorates the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001 with a weekend of special events. Below is a list of activities:
Friday, September 9
September 11: A Historical Remembrance 2:30 p.m. Golisano Room 38
Dr. Timothy Kneeland, Dr. Nevan Fisher and Dr. Timothy Thibodeau from the Nazareth College history department are doing a public presentation marking the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attack. The presentation will offer historical analysis of the intersection of politics, culture and the media during the period immediately after the attack.
Habitat Build Day - sponsored by Nazareth’s Habitat for Humanity Club from 8:45 am – 3:45 pm
Luminary Decorating for 9/11 Ceremony
Nazareth students can decorate luminary bags in Kearney Hall and the French House. The bags will serve as luminaries for a September 11 ceremony at the Kearney Volleyball court around dusk on Sunday.
Saturday September 10
Veterans’ Build Day -Nazareth students will participate in this day by serving lunch to veterans. Nazareth’s Center for Civic Engagement will provide lunch for students and Veterans.
Sunday, September 11
National Moment of Remembrance at 1 p.m. People across the country are asked to stop and remember those lost in the September 11th attacks. Firefighter and police sirens and bells will be sounded at this time.
“Operation Quiet Comfort” is an on-campus service project in which Nazareth community members will decorate up to 96 squares of denim quilt pieces with handwritten messages and encouragements that will be sewn into a small quilt to comfort sick, wounded, or injured soldiers.
“Remembering 9/11 and Moving Forward Together: The Joining of Many Faiths, Many Perspectives” will take place at the East Vista lawn at George Eastman House at 4:00 pm. The Center for Spirituality will provide transportation from Nazareth. Sign up at GAC 153. Vans will leave campus at 3:15 p.m. and return at 5:45 p.m.
