Asner Brings FDR to Life at Arts Center

Emmy-award winning actor Ed Asner will portray 4-term president Franklin Delano Roosevelt in a one-man, one-night only show, Ed Asner as FDR, Saturday, March 27, 8 p.m. at the Nazareth College Art’s Center’s Callahan Theater, 4245 East Avenue, Rochester. Limited tickets are available at $35-65 from the Nazareth College Arts Center Box Office, (585) 389-2710, or on-line at boxoffice.naz.edu.

There will be a pre-performance lecture in room A-14 of the Arts Center on March 27 at 7:00 p.m. –presented by Nazareth College professor of history and political science, Timothy Kneeland. The pre-performance lecture is free and open to the public.

Most recently heard if not seen in the Oscar-winning animated film, “Up!,” Asner, now 80-years-old, is still at the top of his profession. As FDR, Asner looks back on the events and decisions that Ed Asnershaped a nation, reflecting on his years in office, from inauguration to the trials of World War II, and on his relationships with those closest to him including his wife Eleanor and his mistress Lucy Mercer. Asner’s evocative performance provides insight into FDR’s historic decisions, decisions that changed not only the history of the United States but of the world.

Nazareth College Arts Center is the Rochester region's premiere mid-size theater and venue for world-class dance, children's theatre and international entertainment. The Arts Center brings to Rochester many of the same shows enjoyed by audiences at New York's Lincoln Center or the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. The 2010 Princeton Review names Nazareth College the 6th Best College Theater in the country (up from #9 in 2009.) The Nazareth College Arts Center is the home of Rochester Children's Theatre and the performance home of Rochester City Ballet and Garth Fagan Dance.
