Visiting Education Professor Receives Awards for Kenya Work

Nazareth College is pleased to announce that William Cala, visiting professor of education, and his wife Joanne have been awarded the Greater Rochester Community of Churches (GRCC) Faith in Action Metropolitan Award and the United Nations Association of Rochester (UNAR) Community Award for Outstanding International Service. Before beginning at Nazareth in February, Cala was interim superintendent of the Rochester City School District.

Both GRCC and UNAR honored the Calas for their outstanding work in Kenya through Joining Hearts and Hands. This organization, founded by the Calas, is dedicated to the self-sustainability of the children of the Mbaka Oromo Primary School in Maseno, Kenya. Its purpose is to rebuild the school, provide scholarships, and provide health care.

Founded in 1924, Nazareth College is a coeducational college with undergraduate and graduate studies in the liberal arts and sciences and professional programs in health and human services, education, and management. The College is located on 150 scenic acres near Rochester, New York, and currently enrolls approximately 2,000 undergraduate and 800 graduate students.
