Tuition Waiver Benefits

For Dependent Children of Full-Time Faculty & Staff (700 colleges)

Tuition Exchange Eligibility
  • The Tuition Exchange (TE) program is a competitive program that offers the opportunity for the dependent children of full-time faculty and staff members to compete for scholarships valued up to full tuition at over 700 colleges and universities.
  • Current employees must have at least five years of consecutive full-time service or have worked a minimum of five years at an accredited, non-profit, higher education institution immediately prior to joining Nazareth University to be eligible for the TE program. (The five-year anniversary date must occur before your child begins college courses, and you must remain a full-time employee while your student is using TE.) Part-time employees are not eligible.
  • TE scholarships are for full-time undergraduate study and are limited to eight semesters.
  • Dependent children are those claimed by employees on your latest federal income tax forms. (For the 2024-25 application, this means the 2022 tax return.) TE recipients must continue to be claimed as dependents of the eligible employee while they receive the TE scholarship.

Due to the competitive nature of the program, and because each participating institution may differ in its administration of Tuition Exchange, this should not be anticipated as a guaranteed benefit. Program information is available at tuitionexchange.org.

For Faculty/Staff Taking Courses at Naz

Eligibility

Full time employees actively employed for:

  • 3+ months
    • Full tuition waiver for one undergraduate or one graduate course per semester.
  • 1+ years
    • Full tuition waiver for two undergraduate or two graduate courses per semester.
How to Apply

1. Register for your course(s).

2. Complete the Tuition Waiver Request Form.

3. HR will review the form within 2 business days of receipt and submit it to Financial Aid

4. Financial Aid will apply the tuition waiver benefit to your student account*

*You are responsible for any applicable student fees.

This process needs to be completed each semester.

Additional Information
  • When the employee is the student, the employee's direct supervisor must approve the request to take the course(s).

  • One course may be taken per semester during working hours with prior approval of the department chairperson or the director. The employee must make up time missed for class time during working hours during that work week.

For Spouse and/or Dependents Taking Courses at Naz

Eligibility

After one year of full-time employment, spouse and/or dependent(s) is/are eligible for:

Undergraduate Courses

Full tuition remission

Graduate Courses

2/3 tuition remission

High school students will be permitted to enroll at Nazareth as non-matriculated students if they meet the policy criteria.

How to Apply

1. Register for your course(s).

2. Complete the Tuition Waiver Request Form.

3. HR will review the form within 2 business days of receipt and submit it to Financial Aid.

4. Financial Aid will apply the tuition waiver benefit to your student account.*

*You are responsible for any applicable student fees.

Study Abroad Programs
  • Limited tuition benefits are available to matriculated employees and dependent students for study abroad courses.
  • Because the cost of study abroad classes varies from program to program, the employee is required to pay any out-of-pocket expenses including but not limited to extra tuition, fees, excursions, housing, and food, etc. It is recommended that you check with the Student Accounts office regarding any cost you may be responsible for, before registering for study abroad classes.
Additional Information

Students are expected to file a FASFA annually and apply for all scholarships for educational grants for which they may be eligible.

For Employee/Dependents taking Courses at St. John Fisher

Full tuition waiver for undergraduate courses

Prior service credit does not apply to the SJF tuition waiver benefit. 

How to Apply
  1. Complete the SJF undergraduate tuition remission form.
  2. Email Naz Human Resources (humanresources@naz.edu) the completed form, along with your request for a letter indicating your eligibility for the tuition waiver benefit at St. John Fisher University. 
  3. Naz Human Resources will send the form and eligibility letter to St. John Fisher Human Resources. The Naz employee will be included in this email.

This process needs to be completed each semester.

Tuition Waiver

  • Tuition waiver is defined as tuition only. It does not include fees, private music lessons, study abroad expenses, workshops, housing, or food.
  • Credit-bearing group music lessons are allowed under tuition waiver, but fees are not included. These lessons are on a space-available basis for staff and dependents, which will be determined at least three days prior to the course start date.
  • Independent study courses are not eligible for tuition waiver.
