Nazareth College Arts Center is pleased to present TAO: The Way of the Drum, on Saturday, March 31, at 8 p.m. in the Callahan Theater. TAO: The Way of the Drum offers modern entertainment based on Taiko, the traditional art of Japanese drumming. This renowned company has performed for more than 5 million people worldwide, and has hundreds of sold-out shows to their credit.
In 2004 and 2005, TAO performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the largest art festival in the world, and both years they had the highest ticket sales among the more than 2,000 groups who participated. “Undoubtedly one of the finest shows on offer,” raved the Edinburgh Evening News.
Following the success of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, TAO began several full-scale world tours, culminating in their first U.S. Tour in the spring of 2010. They received widespread acclaim, and were subsequently issued an invitation from the Vancouver Olympics, where they sold out 50 shows. Their performance at the Nazareth College Arts Center is part of their new, much sought-after 2012 North American Tour.
Aptly described as "powerful, dynamic and unique" (Time Out), TAO features an unusual blend of contemporary costumes, athletic bodies, explosive Taiko drumming and innovative choreography. TAO: The Way of the Drum showcases the company’s extraordinary precision, energy, and stamina.
The stars of TAO are an elite group of performers, who live and train at a compound in the mountains of Japan, reaching the highest level of virtuosity only after years of intensive study.
Tickets to TAO: The Way of the Drum are $40-$70. For tickets, call – or visit – the Box Office: 585-389-2170 OR visit us online: artscenter.naz.edu.
