Music therapy uses music in the context of a therapeutic relationship to address the physical, communication, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages. Music therapists are licensed professionals trained in music, therapeutic principles and methods, exceptionality, rehabilitation, and psychology. They are skilled in various musical genres and techniques as well as qualified mental health practitioners in assessment, research, and treatment.

Potential Clients

The music therapy clinic has served clients of all ages and with a variety of disorders, including autism, traumatic brain injury, multiple disabilities, speech disorders, aphasia, and physical impairments.

Session Schedule

The clinic offers 50-minute weekly sessions. Sessions follow the Nazareth College semester schedule and may occur in an individual or a small group format, depending upon client needs and clinic scheduling factors.

Student Clinicians

Therapy services are provided by students in the music therapy and graduate creative arts therapy programs. All therapy provided by students is supervised by board-certified music therapist faculty licensed by the New York State Office of the Professions.

Referrals

Clients are referred to the clinic from any number of sources, including other clinics and clients, case managers, physicians, social workers, community music therapists, and community speech therapists.

Eligibility and Fees

The clinic offers affordable services to individuals who are no longer eligible for services under their health care coverage. Please contact the clinic for the current cost of service. A sliding fee scale is available.

Location

The music therapy clinic is found on the Nazareth campus in Carroll Hall. The clinic space is handicap accessible.
