Literacy Clinical Residents Program

A limited number of clinical Residencies are available on a competitive basis to students who pursue a Literacy Specialist master's degree at Nazareth on a full-time basis.

Commitment Requirements

  • Begin coursework in either summer session A, summer session B, or fall 2015
  • Enroll in 12 graduate credit hours during both the fall 2015 and spring 2016 semesters
  • Work for the required number of days per week in an assigned school where you will spend instructional time with a literacy specialist and classroom teachers


  • Receive six credits of graduate assistantship during both the fall and spring semesters, saving a third of the total tuition cost
  • Observe and participate with certified literacy specialists as they meet children's needs
  • Gain knowledge about, observe, and participate with classroom teachers and literacy specialists teaching children at all tiers of Response to Intervention
  • Convert theoretical knowledge into exemplary instructional practices
  • Develop a repertoire of evidence-based instructional and reading strategies that meet the common core standards
  • Contribute as a member of a teaching and learning community

Application Process

  1. Complete the standard graduate admissions process.
  2. Complete the application for the Literacy Clinical Residency*
  3. Provide a letter of recommendation* from a professional who has observed your teaching.
  4. Interview with program faculty.

Application review begins March 1 and will continue until all positions are filled. Applications received after that date will be reviewed subject to fellowship availability.
