Music is a part of all of our lives, and it has been proven to help
students learn. What better way then to help students learn Social Studies than through
using music? The "Auld Lang Syne - The Millennium Mix" lesson plan
incorporates the music of Kenny G and audio clips from important historical events from
the past one hundred years. This lesson plan incorporates many of the multiple
intelligences, including intrapersonal, interpersonal, musical, and verbal/linguistic.
This shows that I am willing and able to adapt lessons to those of multiple learning
styles. Additionally, discussion possibilities are endless, and require much thought and
analysis on the students’ behalf. I think this is a useful lesson to sum up important
events in less than ten minutes. Since history is constantly happening, there is no real
way to catch up and teach it all in a school curriculum. Hence this lesson may be
especially useful to use in the end of the year, to cover more recent events. Overall, I
think this is an exceptional lesson that is different from the traditional manner of
teaching students, and based on experiences, the students find the lesson intriguing and
informative.
