The Department of Theatre Arts at Nazareth College teaches theatre in a liberal arts context developing a student's skills in critical thinking, analysis, reasoning and communication. It expands his or her awareness of and sensitivities to the goals, achievements and structures of thought as they particularly relate to dramatic art. Our approach to the study of performance and production combines the theoretical with the practical in our department's objectives:

• To prepare students for the professional theatre and music theatre world and further study in graduate school by providing a comprehensive training in the art, tools and skills required to create theatre of the highest caliber.
• To support students training for teacher certification at the elementary and high school levels with a Theatre major.
• To serve the broader context of the liberal arts by providing the perspective of the fine arts.
• To enrich the cultural and social life of the Nazareth College Community by staging a wide variety of performance including a range of music theatre and dramatic texts.
