About

The Center's Mission

A commitment to teaching excellence is a hallmark of Nazareth College that spans its entire 75-year history. Such excellence is evident both in how faculty approach their responsibilities in the classroom as teachers and in what students take away with them. But good things demand ongoing attention.

Accordingly, the College has recently renewed its commitment to exceptional teaching both through its mission statement and in decisions involving personnel and resource allocation. The Center for Teaching Excellence -- which was created upon the recommendation of the Academic Vision Committee -- is part of that commitment and devoted to enriching the work of faculty at Nazareth College.

The Center works within a framework of existing grassroots initiatives to strengthen and help build upon these previous successes, while adding new resources and ideas to them. The mission of the Center is both an educational and an integrative one, with three clear points of focus:

  • To foster a climate conducive to open, regular, and collegial discussion about teaching and learning;
  • To provide resource and consultation that fosters the professional growth of faculty as teachers (especially in ways that affect student learning); and
  • To create public forums and celebration of teaching and scholarly excellence.

The Center is located on the Nazareth College Campus in Golisano Academic Center. Our Resource Room, which contains an expanding library and Meeting Room, is in GAC 351. This room is available for reservation by faculty groups. To reserve, please contact Debbie Mathewson at 389-2381 or dmathew4@naz.edu.
