Job title:Real Estate Agent
“I owe a lot to the College. That sense of community and personal guidance helped shape me as a person. When I donate my time and money to Nazareth, I’m helping to give those same experiences to other students. It feels good.”
When searching for the right college, Nina Malatesta looked for an institution with a strong education program, great location, and an equestrian team. Nazareth offered two of the three. And although the College didn’t have an equestrian team at the time, Nina saw the potential for one. Once she came to Nazareth, she found the support in the College’s staff and her fellow classmates to make the team a reality.
Since graduating, Nina finds that the connections she made at Nazareth help her to succeed in her career as a Real Estate Agent. She’s gotten referrals from alumni and some of her former teammates are her current clients.
Just as Nazareth supports her, Nina supports Nazareth. Nina makes an annual gift to the Naz Fund. She also serves on the Nazareth alumni board, where she organizes and volunteers at events like Naz Happy Hours and the alumni association’s annual Golden Flyer egg hunt.
“It’s refreshing to stay in touch with the institution,” she said. “I owe a lot to the College. That sense of community and personal guidance helped shape me as a person. When I donate my time and money to Nazareth, I’m helping to give those same experiences to other students. It feels good.”
Preparing for life after college
I was an education major, but wanted to get more hands-on business experience. So, my senior year, I participated in the internship program. I interned with Bob Blain, a Real Estate Agent. He's the father of one of my equestrian teammates. That's how I got introduced to real estate. Before that, I had no idea what it really involved. Bob was an incredible mentor and the relationship I built with him got me to where I am now.
Currently, I'm on the alumni board. I plan events for GOLD alumni, the group for those who graduated within the last 10 years. It's a great way to give back to the College and I've been able to meet and network with a lot of great people.
Becoming a Real Estate Agent
After I graduated and had a brief career with the Social Security Administration, I contacted Bob and he happened to be looking for an assistant at the time so he hired me to work for him. I assisted him for two years before I struck out on my own. It is exciting and rewarding.
I love the flexibility, freedom, and challenge that come with being an Agent. And I enjoy helping people determine what their needs are in a home and doing what it takes to get what they want.
Making the equestrian team a reality
I grew up around horses. When I came to Nazareth, I spoke with the athletic director and student activities staff and worked hand in hand with them to determine interest for an equestrian club. We competed as a club sport for two years before becoming a varsity sport in 2002. When Terese Bouchard and Huntington Meadows Stable came on board we knew the team would be a continued success. It never would have happened if I didn't have the support of the College and my peers. Everyone worked really hard to make it a success.
