"My background, and the things I’ve been through, made me feel as if I couldn’t achieve my goals. But Nazareth makes me strive to be more independent and to think I can actually do things that I couldn’t do before.”

Jonathan Hammond '12

Jonathan HammondMeet Jonathan Hammond ’12. The art education major wanted to attend Nazareth College as long as he can remember. His foster mother is a Nazareth alumna. So is his biological mother. And many others along the way had encouraged Jonathan to consider a Nazareth education. Though he hoped to have the Nazareth experience he often heard about, his route to the College was not direct or easy.

After transfer admission to Nazareth, he needed much financial help—through grants, student loans, and several Nazareth scholarships —to enroll. Without the generous financial support from donors like you, Jonathan’s Nazareth education would not be possible.

“This school is very empowering,” explains Jonathan. “My background, and the things I’ve been through, made me feel as if I couldn’t achieve my goals. But Nazareth makes me strive to be more independent and to think I can actually do things that I couldn’t do before.”

After graduation next spring, Jonathan hopes to support his community by staying in the Rochester area and working as an art teacher.  Just as he’s received generous financial assistance, he plans to give back to the College to support the next generation of Nazareth students.
