Frequently Asked Questions

I give through my work, why should I donate?

Participation is the key. The number of alumni, employees, and friends supporting Nazareth influences corporations and foundations that are considering major grants and gifts to the College. Faculty and staff support also goes a long way to helping us be heard when we ask for corporate and legislative support.

Your contribution is a vote of confidence in Nazareth and its mission, and will lead the way to our future success.

Can I specify where my contributions should go?

Absolutely. Your contribution can be designated to a variety of areas including the Nazareth Fund (the fund that goes where the needs are greatest), scholarships, departments, and programs, just to name a few. Your gift directly benefits the area you choose. Simply note your preference when you give. Support the area of your choice.

Can I designate my gift to more than one area?

Yes. Clearly note on the giving form how much you want to give to each area. All dollars raised at Nazareth are designated according to the donor's wishes.

How much should I give?

You determine the amount of your gift according to your own charitable interests, your personal willingness to give, and your financial capability. No gift is too small; it's your participation in the effort that matters. With a gift of $100 you join the 1924 Society, a $500 gift makes you a Purple and Gold Society member, and a gift of $1,000 entitles you to Council Oak Society benefits.

Do small gifts really make a difference?

All gifts are important. What is important is that you give, not necessarily the amount. The faculty and staff campaign exemplifies the collective power of giving. With each person doing what he or she can, we all make a big difference. Every dollar makes a difference.

What if my spouse works for a matching gift company?

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees. Check with your spouse's employer's human resource office to determine if they have a matching gift policy.

What are my payment options?

You may give by check, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover), stock, or securities.

How may I donate?

You can give through the mail, online giving, (at, payroll deduction, or in person at the office of development, (Golisano Academic Center, room 187). You can also join the Founder's Society by making a planned gift. Contact Melissa Head at 389-2179 or for details about this giving option.

What is payroll deduction?

Payroll deduction is a simple way for you to complete your gift to Nazareth over time through your paycheck. When you sign up for payroll deduction, your gift will be automatically deducted from your paycheck for the amount and timeframe you stipulate. Please allow two weeks to begin the process.

Will my payroll deduction automatically renew?

There is a new option on your payroll deduction form where you can opt for continuous giving.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes. 100 percent of your gift is tax deductible.

How will my gift be recognized?

All faculty and staff gifts made prior to the end of the fiscal year (June 30) will be acknowledged in the annual report which is sent out the following November. Requests for anonymity are respected.

If I am an alumnus or alumna of Nazareth, will my donation count toward my class giving?

Yes, you will be recognized with your class in the annual report in addition to being listed as a faculty/staff donor.

What if I am already a Donor?

Thank you. You can make an additional contribution or renew your gift in whatever way you choose. Any way you give, your gift - given in the current fiscal year - counts towards the annual faculty and staff campaign.
