Course Description

This capstone seminar enables students to integrate knowledge and skills acquired in prior coursework. A case study approach is used to analyze and interpret results of formal and informal assessments, and students are challenged to differentially diagnose and plan appropriate treatment strategies for persons with various communication disorders.

Service Component

Students work in small groups with several different community agencies to complete a service-learning project that highlights inter-disciplinary teamwork, effective communication, and empowering  individuals with disabilities within an authentic environment. The community agencies include: Hickok Center for Brain Injury (where students develop and present stress reduction workshops for staff and clientele), Mary's Place (a used clothing boutique), Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network (where students would be attending training on homelessness, collecting hygiene products to package and distribute, and hosting a dinner with RAIHN participants), or Daystar for Medically Fragile Children.  Student may also choose to participate in a Community College Bridging partnership, where they present information and interact with students from Monroe Community College to share the Naz CSD experience and information on speech-language pathology as a profession.
