Bringing History to the Community

Our portable, interactive public history display traces the history of the Underground Railroad and, specifically, Rochester's role in the abolitionist movement.

The museum panels were recently presented at the International Underground Railroad Conference on September 28th, 2007. The project will travel to surrounding schools and youth programs in 2008.

History of the Underground Railroad

The panels show the history of slavery and abolitionism in Rochester, New York. The panels touch upon broad Underground Railroad and U.S. history, the Fugitive Slave Act, and notable figures such as Harriet Tubman, Isaac Post, and Frederick Douglass.
