Nazareth College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Deborah Anne Dooley as the new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Dooley has taught in the department of English at Nazareth College since 1978.
Upon receiving the recommendation from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) search committee, Daan Braveman, president of Nazareth College, made the announcement to the campus community on December 14. "I am pleased by the search committee's recommendation," said Braveman. "Dr. Dooley is a great educator whose dedication to Nazareth and the importance of a liberal arts education is evident in her every day interactions with both students and faculty. She has a clear vision for the College of Arts and Sciences and I am very much looking forward to working with her in her new capacity."
Dooley received her doctorate and master's in English, and a second master's in counseling from the University of Rochester. She received a bachelor's in English and philosophy from Nazareth College. During her tenure at Nazareth, Dooley has served as the chair of English and director of College Writing programs, director of the women's studies program and the honor's program, and she has been chair and a member of numerous academic committees within and outside of the department of English. She is currently secretary to the board at Sojourner House in Rochester.
The CAS search committee was comprised of seven faculty members and the vice president for academic affairs. In late November, all faculty and staff were invited to interview each of the three internal candidates during a series of coffee hours and presentations, and were encouraged to provide input and feedback via a secure website.
