Nazareth College Arts Center declares Tuesday, November 22 Citizens Day in honor of Citizens Bank's generous donation of over $5,000 to purchase tickets and provide transportation for more than 600 urban school children to see The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other Eric Carle Favorites performed at the Nazareth College Arts Center.
The donation also allows for each classroom to receive hard-cover books of Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar. ***GREAT PHOTO OP.*** Buses will arrive for the show at 11:30 a.m. in the Arts Center parking lot for the noon show. Media, please call Alicia Nestle at (585) 781-8187 or Julie Long at (585) 781-8186 for parking instructions. Citizens Bank employees will be volunteering as greeters and interacting with the children. Citizens Bank employees and Nazareth officials are available for interviews.
"Citizens Bank is thrilled to be able to bring the classic tales of Eric Carle to life on the stage of the Nazareth College Arts Center,"says Citizens Bank, Rochester District President, Charles Vita. "Providing access to the richness of theatrical experiences to children at a young age helps their imaginations grow."
Because Citizens Bank is guided by the belief that the strength of its company is tied to the strength of the communities where they do business, it is dedicated to funding community based, educational services targeted to low - and moderate-income families and individuals.
"The Arts Center is a lead presenter of children's plays in the Rochester region," says Nazareth College President Daan Braveman. "Citizens Bank is helping those who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to experience something that they will remember for years to come."
Performed by The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, the show is a whimsical compilation of three beloved Eric Carle stories. The Very Hungry Caterpillar tells the tale of the hungry caterpillar's progress through an amazing variety of foods towards his eventual metamorphosis into a butterfly. High up in a beautiful blue sky, a Little Cloud changes into various shapes of things he has seen. An adventurous trip to the zoo teaches the Mixed-Up Chameleon the importance of being true to oneself.
Welcoming more than three million people since its opening in 1967, the 1,128-seat Nazareth College Arts Center's Arthur J. and Marie M. Callahan Theater welcomes approximately 65,000 people annually, including 24,500 children at school performances.
