| New students "getting to know" each other at Orientation 2004. |
Nazareth College's new president, Daan Braveman, is rolling out the welcome mat for 452 new freshmen on Thursday, August 25. The Class of 2009 is the largest class in the College's history. Nazareth's Orientation 2005 begins when the new students from N.Y. and 14 other states, from as far away as New Mexico and Wisconsin, move in to the residence halls on campus beginning at 8:30 a.m. President Braveman will personally greet new students and their parents as he motors around campus on a golf cart with cool refreshments for the tired movers. President Braveman will join the students and their families for a picnic lunch before he leads his first ever New Student Convocation at the Arts Center. (see schedule below). The new students also take part in their annual Community Service Project on Saturday, August 27 (a list of media approved community service locations is at the end of the press release). For more information about orientation, contact Julie Long, assistant director of Marketing and Communications at (585) 389-2456 or (585) 781-8186 (cell).
This year's freshman class has the bar set high for academic standards. Nazareth's Vice President for Enrollment Management Tom DaRin says the mean SAT score is 1152, up from last year. The mean grade-point average (GPA) is 3.4. The percentage of students in the top-ten percent of their high school class stands at 29 percent and 66 percent of students are in the top 25-percent of the high school class.
