Nazareth College’s Maison Française is proud to host U.S. General Delegate of Alliances Françaises Jean-François Chénin as speaker in the next installment of its Spring 2012 Lecture Series. Chénin, who is also director of the Alliance Française of Miami, will speak on Twentieth Century French Poetry and the Unheard Voices of Contemporary Poetry: Women Poets. This lecture takes place on Thursday, April 19, at 8 p.m. in Nazareth College’s the Maison Française, 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14618. Chénin currently serves in France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but is also a writer, a poet, and a philosopher. He was born in Lorraine, France, and spent his childhood in foreign lands (Iran, Turkey, Greece) thanks to his traveling father. Chénin life-long interest in reading and writing has guided his career. While serving the National Education in France, he was one of the founders of the French National Network for Gender Equality in National Education. He also created the Research and Development Section of the ONISEP, and was CEO of a French pastries firm. For the past 15 years, he has lived abroad serving the French language and culture in Israel, India and now the United States.
This lecture is part of the Spring 2012 Maison Française Poetry Series WRITING FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE IN FRENCH programming, that featured Octave Naulleau’s lecture on “Le Poème chanson et la Chanson poème” (March 22). On Friday, April 20, at 7:00pm in room 38 of the Golisano Academic Center, Jean-François Chénin will also deliver the opening keynote speech at the Nazareth College Fourth Annual Poetry Reading Competition in French, event which will conclude the Spring 2012 Poetry Series.
