Nazareth Joins Clinton Global Initiative University Network

Nazareth College has joined the Clinton Global Initiative University Network (CGI U), a growing consortium of colleges and universities that support, mentor, and provide seed funding to student leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs who are developing solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Nazareth is now one of more than 45 colleges and universities worldwide who have joined the CGI University Network.

Nazareth College is now looking for current students to apply for their chance to attend CGI U 2014, hosted by President Bill Clinton, at Arizona State University this spring, March 21-23, 2014. Students who are selected to pursue their Commitments to Action at CGI U 2014 will receive funding from Nazareth. Commitments to Action, a unique feature of the CGI U model, are new, specific, and measurable initiatives that address global challenges across CGI U’s five focus areas: Education, Environment and Climate Change, Peace and Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation, and Public Health. Nazareth will also mentor student commitment-makers as they develop and implement their plans in the coming months.

"I am very excited about the opportunities the CGI U provides for our students,” said Nazareth President Daan Braveman. “They will meet and work with over 1200 student leaders in addressing global issues relating to Education, Environment and Climate Change, Peace and Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation, and Public Health. These students truly will be making a difference through their collaborative and creative actions. "

Since its inaugural meeting in 2008, CGI U has brought together more than 5,500 student leaders from 135 countries and more than 800 schools. Past speakers include Madeleine Albright, Jack Dorsey, Muhammad Yunus, Hawa Abdi Diblawe, and Jon Stewart. For more information about the meeting, visit www.cgiu.org.
The deadline to apply for CGI U 2014 is January 17, 2014, and students can apply online at http://www.cgiu.org/apply.
Nazareth is one of only five colleges nationwide to receive the 2013 Presidential Awardee in the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.  "95 percent of Nazareth College students participate in service. Last year alone, Nazareth students devoted 553,000 hours of service to the community.
