Nazareth Theatre Arts Presents Grimm

Nazareth College Theatre Arts Department presents, Grimm, a dance theatre based on the tales of the Brothers’ Grimm, adapted by Lindsay Reading Korth and Lorraine Person. The play will be performed in the Nazareth Arts Center, Studio 48 on February 18, 19, 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. and February 20 and 27 at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $12 for adults, $11 for students and children, and $10 for senior citizens for each of the plays. For more information, call the Nazareth Box Office at 585-389-2170. Nazareth College is located at 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y., 14618.

Grimm’s fairy tales explores the music, dance and narrative that the stories evoke about the human condition – its universal fears, sorrows and joys in the journey we all take between birth and death. The performance is not appropriate for young children. The play focuses on the myth and character codified by Carl Jung, which explores the dark violence in the stories that reflect our nightmare and daydream reality.

Dance and acting are blended together in the form of “physical theatre.” For two years, the department has had a dance minor and two student designers are working on the production, Samm Cadwell in Costume Design under the mentorship of Yuanting Zhao and Raiden Dolan in Lighting Design under the mentorship of Beth LaJoie. The design elements are closer to dance than traditional theatre and emphasize the human form and shape of the body in time and space. It exposes the Nazareth Community to a new form of theatre and world premiere.

The cast of Grimm includes: Brent Burkhardt, senior, of Brighton, N.Y.; Chelsea Hallowell, senior, of Penfield, N.Y.; Mikaela Holmes, freshman, of Niskayuna, N.Y.; Meg Keenan, senior, of Valatie, N.Y.; Dimitar Kominovski, sophomore, of Webster, N.Y.; Joshua Lau, sophomore, of Honolulu, HI; Kait Meleski, senior, of Geneseo, N.Y.; and Samuel Vaccaro, freshman, of Webster, N.Y.
