Nazareth College Family Weekend, Oct. 23-25

Nazareth College is getting ready to welcome the families and friends of students for a weekend of fun and activities starting Friday, October 23 to Sunday, October 25. This year’s activities include theatre performances, food, sports events and more. Friday, October 23

Dessert and performance
Meet mentalist Joshua Seth as he attempts to hypnotize members of the audience and possibly even you! This event takes place in the Shults Center Forum from 8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. The event is free; please indicate the number of people attending on the registration form. Coffee and desserts will be served.

Theatre Department Production: The Way of the World
Come and enjoy this romantic comedy of two lovers, Mirabell and Millamant. In order to get married and receive Millamant’s full dowry, they must first obtain the blessing of Millamant’s aunt who is a bitter woman who hates Mirabell. The performance takes place in the Callahan Theater in the newly renovated Arts Center. General admission costs $10 (Nazareth College students are free with a valid ID) and $8 for seniors. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. and the doors open at 7:30 p.m. Please call the box office at (585) 389-2170 to order tickets. There will also be a performance on Saturday, October 24 at 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. 

Saturday, October 24

Family Weekend Registration
Get off to a great start and enjoy coffee, donuts and conversation. Pick up your tickets for events at the Family Weekend information table in the Shults Center Cabaret starting at 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Family Weekend Institute
Join Nazareth faculty and staff as they share their expertise. Parents will learn how Nazareth pushes the classroom walls to provide opportunities for students. Registration is on a “first come, first serve” basis on Saturday morning at Family Weekend registration table in the Shults Center Cabaret. All program information, including locations and descriptions, will also be available there. The institute is from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Make A Difference Day
Families can volunteer for an hour shift to work with youth from Compeer. They will be on campus to make fall crafts which will be delivered with Meals on Wheels later this fall. This event takes place in the Shults Center Forum from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. To volunteer, contact Adam Lewandowski at alewand8@naz.edu or call (585) 389-2307.

Alumni Legacy Luncheon
Parents and grandparents who are Nazareth College alumni, along with their sons, daughters, or grandchildren, are invited to a special luncheon in the Sorrelles Café in the Golisano Academic Center at noon honoring continued commitment to a Nazareth education. Advance registration is required. To make your reservation, call the Office of Alumni Relations at (585) 389-2472 or register online at alumni.naz.edu. 

Sports Events
The men’s soccer team will face off against Alfred at noon at the Nazareth College Stadium. The women’s volleyball team will play against Stevens at 12 noon in the Kidera Gymnasium in the Shults Center and then against RIT at 2:30 p.m. also in the Kidera Gymnasium. Finally, both the men’s and women’s swim teams will compete against RIT at 1:00 p.m. at the Shults Center pool.

Family Weekend Student Recital
Students from the department of music will hold a concert in the Wilmot Recital Hall at 2:30 p.m. directed by Beverly Smoker.

Family Weekend Extravaganza: Rock the World!
Rock the World! is a fundraising event for Fight the Bite, a worldwide organization dedicated to fighting malaria in Africa. After dinner check out a fun-filled evening in the Shults Center starting with desserts in the Cabaret and activities to educate and promote awareness about the malaria issue in Africa. The event costs $3 per person (children under 10 are free) and all proceeds will be donated to Fight the Bite. Twelve groups of students will also be participating in the Rock the World Concert in the Kidera Gymnasium.

Sunday, October 25

Family Worship Services
A special Catholic mass will take place in the Linehan Chapel in the Golisano Academic Center at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Protestant worship service at 11:00 a.m. 

Family Brunch
Finish off the weekend with a fantastic brunch before heading home. Reservations are required. The cost for each parent or family member is $8. Students with a meal plan should consider this a regular meal and use their ID cards. The brunch will be in the Kearney Dining Hall from 11:15 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

2010 Seniors Family Brunch
Seniors and their families are invited to end their weekend with a special senior brunch in Sorelles Café in the Golisano Academic Center from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Reservations are required. The cost is $8.50 per person.

Sports Events
The women’s volleyball team will face off against Hartwick at 12:30 p.m. in the Kidera Gymnasium in the Shults Center and then against Ithaca at 3:00 p.m.

Nursing Honor Society Induction
Students being inducted into the nursing honor society invite their families to a ceremony and reception in the Shults Center Forum at 2:00 p.m. The reception will take place afterwards in the Reading Lounge. Please call Linda Janelli at (585) 389-2170 to RSVP.

Throughout the weekend, the Shults Center recreation facilities will be available for families. The fitness center will be open on Friday until 11:30 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. The pool will be available on Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. and Sunday from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
