Naz Students "Fight the Bite" Family Weekend, Oct 24
October 20, 2009
Nazareth College is proud to present an opportunity for students and their parents to “Fight the Bite” during the Family Weekend Extravaganza: Rock the World! event on October 24 from 9:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. This special event benefits Nothing but Nets, a world-wide organization committed to fighting malaria in Africa by buying bed nets. The goal of this event is to raise $2,000 which would buy 200 bed nets. The event will start with desserts in the Cabaret and “Fight the Bite” will take place in the Shults Center located on the Nazareth College campus, 4245 East Ave., Rochester, N.Y. 14618. Tickets cost $3 and children 10 and under are free. For more information, contact Caitlin Schultz at cschult9@naz.edu.
Inspired by ESPN columnist Rick Reilly, Nothing but Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, the leading killer of children in Africa. Reilly challenged his readers to donate at least $10 for the purchase of an anti-malaria bed net which led to the creation of the campaign by the UN Foundation in 2006. Each year 500 million people are infected with malaria and it is the cause for 20% of all childhood deaths in Africa.
