Naz Hosts Pre-K @ College Program
September 29, 2009
Dozens of Rochester families are “taking their preschooler
to college” as Nazareth College hosts Pre-K @ College, a special event in partnership with the Rochester City School District (RCSD). The event for RCSD pre-school children and their families, which is by invitation only, is on Saturday, October 3, from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m., in the Shults Center Forum on the Nazareth College campus, 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y., 14618. The program features local author Will Hubbell (shown at right presenting a book to a preschooler last year), who will be reading his book Apples Here!, which includes illustrations of city, rural and urban school children in the area and also local apple farms. Hubbell will also present each child with one of his books. The goal of this program is a partnership between higher education institutions and the Rochester City School District Pre-K Program to promote learning, enjoyment, and the possibility of higher education. It is sponsored by the Nazareth College School of Education Graduate Literacy programs and the RCSD Early Childhood Department.
Nazareth’s School of Health and Human Services and School of Education’s Literacy Programs have scheduled many hands-on activities for both parents/caregivers and children, some of which include: Wegmans sharing healthy and cost effective snack choices for children; a representative from Nazareth’s physical therapy demonstrating home exercises, and a representative from the Monroe County Public Library System talking about programs available for families.
Other supporters of the event include: Wegmans, Nazareth’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, Nazareth’s School of Health and Human Services, Monroe County Public Library System, the Mayor’s Literacy Initiative, RCSD Pre-K Teachers, volunteers from Nazareth’s School of Health and Human Services and School of Education, and high school volunteers from RCSD.
