Watches Without Time (Just World Books, 2012) is a compilation of the emails and letters Zeller sent home to family and friends during his eight-month post as an embedded combat adviser with the Afghan security forces in Ghazni, Afghanistan – so that, as he writes in the preface, "should anything have ever happened to me, they would know what I went through."

Zeller is also a fellow at the Truman Project for National Security and an adjunct fellow at the American Security Project. His writings have appeared in The Christian Science Monitor, Politico, and Roll Call. He is a regular commentator for the Huffington Post and has appeared on MSNBC, Fox News, Huffpost Live, Russia Today, and Al Jazeera. Zeller currently serves in the United States Army Reserve.
