Nazareth College is remembering a beloved and vibrant member of our community. Cathy Whalen, the Arts Center box office manager for 42 years, passed away suddenly on August 29.
“She has been with the Arts Center since its beginning, and many people who passed through the doors of the theater personally knew Cathy,” said President Daan Braveman. “Cathy cared so much about the Arts Center and making sure that each patron had a memorable and wonderful experience. She also cared for, and supported, the many faculty, staff, and students who worked in the Arts Center over the past 4 decades. Our campus community has suffered a tremendous loss.”
Cathy is survived by her husband, Richard, brothers Richard [Carol], Thomas [Marie] sisters, Peggy [Brian] Fleming, Sr. Judy,SSJ, brother-in-law Al Cocco [Lee], loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
“Cathy had a smile that could light up the entire theater,” said Arts Center Director Lindsay Reading Korth. “The Nazareth College Arts Center was her lifelong passion and joy, and she had such a gift for truly knowing and caring about her fellow employees and her valued Arts Center patrons—we will miss her in more ways than we can say.”
A Celebration of the Life of Cathy Whalen is set for Wednesday, September 29th at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Arts Center Callahan Theater. This gathering, on what would have been her birthday, will give Cathy's friends and family the opportunity to celebrate her life through songs, readings, pictures, and personal stories. We hope you can join us as we celebrate a beloved member of our Nazareth family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nazareth College Arts Center. Contact Peggy Martin at: Nazareth College, 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14618.
