Susan Van Buren is the instructor of bassoon at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York where, in addition to her private students, she teaches double reed methods. She holds degrees in music education from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
Ms. Van Buren is principal bassoon in the Greater Rochester Music Educators Wind Ensemble and the Perinton Concert Band. She has also performed in the Greater Rochester Women’s Philharmonic, the Penfield Symphony, the Brockport Festival Orchestra and various chamber ensembles. Ms. Van Buren also maintains an active private lesson studio in her home. Her students are consistently selected to participate in area youth orchestras as well as NYSSMA All-Conference and NAfME All-Eastern groups. In her spare time she works as a professional music copyist.
Ms. Van Buren spent twenty-three years as a music educator in the Fairport Central School District and served terms as secretary and elementary chorus coordinator for the Monroe County School Music Association. She is a member of Delta Omicron, the National Association for Music Education and the International Double Reed Society.
