The Nazareth College Concert Band is an 80-member ensemble that performs a minimum of two full concerts each semester. Its core is comprised of instrumental majors at Nazareth College. Repertoire is drawn from the classic band literature (such as Holst, Grainger and Vaughan Williams), newly-composed works (such as Bryant, Higdon and Ticheli) and music for chamber winds (Gabrieli, Mozart, Dvorak) . Faculty and students perform solo concertos with the ensemble each year. Students performing in the Concert Band are grounded in the elements of ensemble playing and learn techniques that will equip them to direct future ensembles and perform on their instruments at high levels.
Under the direction of Dr. Barbara Hull, the exciting 2011-2012 season includes music by W. A. Mozart, Sergei Prokofiev, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Jennifer Higdon, Steven Bryant, John Mackey and Frank Ticheli. Performances take place at on- and off-campus venues. Rehearsals are Mondays (4:00-5:30) and Wednesdays (5:30-7:00) and are open for observation by prospective students. Concerts are free and open to the public.
