General Policies
Nazareth College is a private institution that allows the public in-library use of most collections and services. If you wish to borrow materials, you will need to get a RRLC Access Card from your home library. Access cards are issued to selected graduate students, faculty, and staff of participating institutions - you must go through your own institution's library to receive an Access card. The Access card program is coordinated by the Rochester Regional Library Council (RRLC); for more information on the Access program, follow this link to the RRLC Access Card Program.
Bring your Access card and a current photo ID to the Circulation Desk (near the entrance to the library) and we'll sign you up to borrow books. Please note that Access cards are valid for a maximum of one year, from July 1 to June 30.
(The library reserves the right to exclude admission and/or to revoke privileges of any individual whose behavior impacts the quality of service to the college's primary library clientele: the presently enrolled students and current faculty and staff of Nazareth College.)
Book Circulation
Borrowing
Your RRLC Access card is required to check out books. Books may be borrowed for three-weeks (21-days) from the date of check-out. You are limited to a maximum of 15 books checked out at a time.
Books are never due on a day the library is closed. If the borrowing period ends on a day that the library will be closed, books will be due on the next day the library is open.
Renewals
Books may be renewed for an additional three-week period from the date of renewal as long as no one has requested the book. You may renew books a maximum of three times.
Books may be renewed in person, online, or by phone (call 389-2129). Please have your RRLC Access card with your library barcode ready when you are renewing books. In compliance with state and federal privacy laws, we cannot discuss information in your library record without proper ID. By phone, the only identification we can accept is your library barcode.
Overdues
There is a 5 cent per day per book overdue charge. If material checked out is not returned, the account it is checked out on will be billed for the replacement costs plus a $10.00 processing fee per item.
Overdue books may be recalled by other library users. If you have a recalled overdue book, you will not be able to renew or check any other materials until the recalled book is returned.
Holds
If you are unable to find the book you are looking for, or if it is currently checked out, you may place a hold on it at the Circulation Desk. Once a hold has been placed, the current borrower will not be able to renew the book. You will be notified as soon as the book is returned.
If a book is not on the shelf when you look for it (and if it is listed in WebPAC as "check shelves"), the library staff will look for the book. As soon as the book is found, you will be notified.
Reference Services
The Reference staff will assist you with your informational needs; Reference Desk hours are listed at the "hours" link at the top of each of the library's web pages. You may freely use our print reference materials, however, except in extraordinary circumstances, the library's public workstations are reserved for current students, faculty, and staff of Nazareth College.
Librarian-mediated online searches are available, but please be aware of the costs: $10.00 service fee for the request, plus all direct costs assessed by the online service provider (may vary from insignificant to hundreds of dollars). See the Reference Librarian for details.
While we do not allow you to access the library's licensed web-based electronic services, many of the more popular services offer subsets, or even full versions, of their databases to the public on alternate sites that you may access from your home computer. For example, a version of Index Medicus called Pub Med is freely available at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi and the full version of the ERIC database is freely available at http://www.eric.ed.gov/. Additionally, you may access a wide variety of databases with a valid ID card from a library in the Monroe County Library System at http://www3.libraryweb.org/databases.aspx?id=64.
Reserve/Interlibrary Loan/Serials (RILS)
Reserve Materials
You may access only those materials that have been placed on Permanent Reserve; the use of materials that have been placed on Course Reserve is restricted to those who are enrolled in the class.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
The library cannot offer you Interlibrary Loan services. You may use the ILL services through your school or through the public library.
Serials and Journals
The complete holdings of our journal collection are included in the OPAC and WebPac. Selected journal lists are available on the Library’s web site. The collection includes journals, magazines, newspapers, and the ERIC microfiche document collection.
Photocopying and Microform Printing
Photocopiers are self-service. The charge is 10 cents per copy for black and white copies, and 25 cents per copy for color copies.
Microfilm printing is self-service at 10 cents per page.
Contact the RILS Department (389-3321) for additional information.
Media Resources Services
Your current RRLC Access card is required for use of the media collection. Media materials may be used for 4 hours in the Library or requested for off campus circulation via interlibrary loan through the your home institution or public library. However, media materials are primarily selected to support teaching and learning at Nazareth College. In addition, licensing or contractual agreements may restrict circulation of certain media materials to Nazareth College campus use. Therefore, the Media Resources Coordinator approves ILL requests on a case-by-case basis. Media materials on course reserve have limited circulation and are not eligible for interlibrary loan.
Other Media Resources service are not available to RRLC Access card holders.
