Services for Staff

General Policies

Your ID with the library barcode is your unique identification. If you don't have a barcode on your ID, please come to the Circulation Desk to get one. With it you may:

  • Check out library materials.
  • View your library account via WebPAC.
  • Renew your books by phone.
  • Access the library's electronic resources.
  • Access the library's public computers.

Book Circulation

Borrowing

Books from the general collection that are checked out to staff are due on June 1st of each year (the due date changes on May 1st of each year - all books checked out from that point are due June 1st the following year). This extended loan period does not apply to special categories of books (e.g., reference and rare materials which are handled on a case by case basis), McNaughton Books (three week loan period), or other formats of materials such as periodicals or media items. Should someone else need a book, it will be subject to recall after an initial three-week protected period. All users are encouraged to return books and other library materials once no longer needed, even if not as yet due.

On May 1st we send out “Statements of Checked Out Items” to all staff. This acts as a convenient reminder to return or renew items on the list. Books may be renewed in person or by phone (call 389-2129). Please have your ID with your library barcode ready when renewing books. In compliance with state and federal privacy laws, we cannot discuss information in your library record without proper ID. By phone, the only identification we can accept is your library barcode.

Overdues

Staff do not incur overdue fines on books. If a book checked out is lost, the account it is checked out on will be billed for the replacement costs of the book(s) plus a $5.00 processing fee per book.

Holds

If you are unable to find the book you are looking for, or if it is currently checked out, you may place a hold on it at the Circulation Desk. Once a hold has been placed, the current borrower will not be able to renew the book. You will be notified as soon as the book is returned.

If a book is not on the shelf when you look for it (and if it is listed in WebPAC as "check shelves"), the library staff will look for the book. As soon as the book is found, you will be notified.

Reference Services

The Reference staff will assist you with all of your informational needs. You may contact them in person at the Reference Desk on the main level of the library (regular hours are listed at the "hours" link at the top of each of the library's web pages), telephone them at 389-2137, or email them at refdesk@naz.edu.

Please note that the library's licensed, External Electronic Resources (e.g. EBSCOHost and FirstSearch®) require you to log in using your library barcode number. If you are connecting from off-campus, see the instructions for setting up your browser to use the library's proxy server.

Reserve/Interlibrary Loan/Serials (RILS)

Interlibrary Loan

ILL service is available through the web-based ILLiad system. You may access ILLiad from the pull-down menu of "Quick Links" that appears on the top of each of the library's web pages.

Serials and Journals

The complete holdings of our journal collection are included in the OPAC and WebPac. Selected journal lists are available on the Library’s web site. The collection includes journals, magazines, newspapers, and the ERIC microfiche document collection.

Document Delivery Service

Desktop delivery of electronic copies of materials that we own. Please note that in adherence to the Fair Use Guidelines provisions of copyright law we are unable to scan complete works (e.g., an entire book, an entire journal issue, etc.).

Photocopies and Microform Copies

Photocopies are self-service. The charge is 10 cents per copy (cash), or 8 cents (copicard). Copicards may be purchased for $5.00 from the Circulation and RILS desks.

Microfilm printing is either self-service (10 cents per page), or you can use the Microform Copy Service. The RILS staff will copy articles at the rate of $1.00 for 5 pages or less, or 20 cents per page for longer articles.

Contact the RILS Department (389-3321) for additional information.

Media Resources Services

Staff who plan to use Media Resources services should discuss their needs with members of the Media Resources staff. Please visit the Media Resources  web page for more information about the services offered.
