Identifying Materials to be Acquired

Collection development at the Lorette Wilmot Library relies on faculty recommendations.  The following list is provided to assist faculty in facilitating this vital responsibility.  While it is not meant to be comprehensive, it may be useful as a starting point for selection and informational purposes.

Selection and Verification Resources:

Books in Print with Reviews

  • Provides information on in-print, out-of-print and forthcoming books published in the U.S.
  • Contains over 3.5 million title records and over 500,000 full-text reviews.
  • Also includes video titles and spoken word audio cassettes.


  • The OCLC Online Union Catalog of books, web resources and other material from member libraries worldwide.


Barnes & Noble

Powell's Books

  • The world's largest independent new and used book store.


  • Books you thought you'd never find.


  • One-stop search site that lets users view the collections of over 40,000 sellers of new, used, rare and out-of-print books.


  • Offers the largest selection of foreign language books in North America.

Dramatists Play Service

  • Search their "Playfinder" catalogue.

Video Distributor Database

- Searchable database of video distributors maintained by the Media Resources Center of UC Berkeley


  • Searchable catalog of video and DVD titles.

Movies Unlimited

  • Another mail-order video distributor.
