Identifying and Locating Media Materials

Materials in the media collection can be identified through the library's online catalog.  The system is easy to use without instruction for basic searching by author, title, subject or keyword.  To make extensive use of the online catalog, asking a Reference Librarian for instruction on advanced search techniques is recommended. The media collection is shelved in open stacks on Library's lower level and accessible during Library hours.

Media Course Reserves

Reserve materials are also listed in the library's online catalog, and can be searched by professor or course.  Videos, CDs, and other media materials on reserve for a specific course are shelved in closed stacks and may be obtained at the Circulation Services Desk on the main level of the Library.

Missing Items

If an item listed in the library's online catalog with the status "check shelves" cannot be found in the collection, please ask for assistance at the Technology and Media Services Desk.  If the item is not located with the help of the desk assistant, a missing item form will be completed; staff will search for the item and notify the requester of results.

Borrowing Media Materials

Due to the high use of many media materials in classroom instruction, circulation of the collection is limited. Materials may be checked out at either the  Circulation Services Desk or the Technology and Media Service Desk. A college ID with library barcode is the unique identification required to use media materials.  Barcodes may be obtained at the Circulation Services Desk. All materials must be checked out even if they are used only in the library. Each borrower assumes full responsibility for all materials charged to his or her account and for knowledge of and adherence to library policies concerning loan periods and penalties.

St. John Fisher Faculty
With a Nazareth College library barcode (obtained at the Circulation Services Desk), may borrow most media materials for one week. Media course reserve material and materials heavily used at Nazareth College or restricted due to licensing or contractual agreements are not eligible for circulation.

Late fees may accrue for materials not returned by the due date.  If materials are not returned, the account it is checked out on will be billed for the replacement costs plus a $10.00 processing fee per item.

Media materials may be renewed a maximum of one time as long as no one has requested the item. Renewals may be done in person, online, or by phone. A library barcode is required to verify identity for renewals.  In compliance with state and federal privacy laws, information in library records cannot be discussed without proper ID.  By phone, the only identification accepted is a library barcode.

If an item in the media collection is currently checked out, a recall request may be placed at the Circulation Services Desk or Technology and Media Service Desk.  Once a recall request has been placed, the current borrower will not be able to renew the item and the requester will be notified as soon as the item is returned.
