Japan

Osaka University was established as an Imperial University in 1931. Osaka is a region located in the geographical center of Japan, surrounded on three sides by mountains. It has a population of approximately 8.8 million, making it the second most populous area after Tokyo.

Today, Osaka is one of Japan's largest and most respected institutions for research and higher learning, maintaining an especially high reputation in the fields of medicine, science and engineering. Nazareth students will enroll in the Osaka University Short-term Student Exchange Program (OUSSEP)which provides a selection of courses taught in English as well as independent study opportunities, group activities, and excursions. Basic knowledge of the Japanese language is desirable but not a prerequisite for this program.  Four levels of Japanese are among the OUSSEP course offerings.

Osaka University has come to encompass 10 Faculties/Schools, 14 Graduate Schools, 5 Research Institutes, and 2 National Facilities for Joint Use, in addition to a number of other facilities, in its development as one of Japan’s most distinguished universities.  While maintaining a focus on the continuation of education and research, Osaka University is an institution that offers an atmosphere to further develop and enhance the skills needed in the 21st century.
