About The Program
Undergraduate students who come to Nazareth will complete a five year degree program, with a first year to eighteen months spent in intensive English classes through the Center for International Education’s American Language Institute and classes in their major as they are able. If they pass an English language equivalency examination offered by the Center, they will stay on at the college and earn a degree in their chosen area of The College of Arts and Sciences.
- Language Proficiency Requirements for Graduate and Undergraduate Students
TOEFL (Nazareth College Institution Code for TOEFL: 2511)
Normally, 79 (Internet-based) score with a minimum of 25 on the spoken language portion of the test is required. However, students who do not meet the required score and who opt to enroll in the American Language Institute may be conditionally admitted to the College with approval of the CIE director and the director of their program of study. They may obtain the necessary language proficiency through study and testing in American Language Institute programs, upon which time their conditional status will be removed and they will be fully admitted to the College. Normally, students have 18 months from the time of enrollment in the American Language Institute to successfully achieve language proficiency.
Nazareth's 150-acre, naturally wooded and beautifully maintained campus is located in Pittsford, New York, a historic village near Rochester. More than 1,200 full-time undergraduates live on campus in 11 residence halls that include singles, doubles, suites and apartments, both coed and single-sex.
The College places a high priority on the safety of all students. Trained security officers patrol the campus around the clock, and provide a safe environment for students to live and learn. International students stay in comfortable and secure housing with free laundry on campus under the supervision of a residential housing director. An on-campus living experience contributes to each student’s academic development, personal and social growth as well as providing an intensive English-speaking environment for international students. Housing and dining services at Nazareth College accommodate all student needs. International students are provided with a full meal plan.
Campus life outside the classroom is also significant. Students may participate on 23 Division III varsity sports teams--from soccer to tennis to golf and more. Students are free to access to a 2,200 seat stadium with all-weather track, a grass soccer field, an indoor swimming pool, a basket ball court, and two fitness centers. Undergraduate students are offered free tickets and graduate students are offered half-price tickets to performances at the newly renovated Nazareth College Arts Center and its world-class season series events.
Off-campus, Rochester, the third largest metropolitan city in New York State offers a wide variety of cultural and recreational possibilities from the exhibits at the George Eastman House, Memorial Art Gallery and Science Museum, and concerts at the Eastman Theater, to the delights of windsurfing on Lake Ontario.
