Student ResearchExpanded lab space to support individual student research means students won't have to tear down their experiments at the end of one session and then take the time to put them back together at the beginning of the next session. They will be more productive, present more papers, and be more impressive to medical and graduate school admissions boards. |
Faculty ResearchIn the new facility, faculty will have room to conduct sophisticated experiments that contribute to the knowledge that shapes our world. They cannot now pursue promising grants in biofuels, for example, because they do not have enough space to grow the algae or work with other potential sources of alternative energy. |
Music TherapySpace in the building will allow music therapists to work across departmental boundaries with biologists and other researchers on such topics as measuring the brain's response to harmonic changes or determining the effect of music on the immune system. |
GreenhouseA greenhouse features three environments—desert, sub-tropical, and temperate. It will grow plants for study and research, for community outreach, and for showing teachers how to use plants to enrich a math/science curriculum. It will also be used for horticultural therapy—a relatively new discipline that has been proven to be beneficial for clients who have had strokes or traumatic brain injury. |
