Spring Break in Belize
This past spring was the 6th year that the Nursing Department has had students and faculty traveling to Belize in Central America. Those that go for the week are attached to Octavia Waight Centre which is a nursing home located in San Ignacio. At the nursing home health assessments are conducted, care plans developed, in-services provided and residents are engaged in recreational activities. Everyone is exposed to a different culture which includes visiting the Mayan ruins, and the Belize Zoo. Each year different sites are visited – this year, for example, was a visit to the Butterfly Farm and a zip lining outing!

During the Spring 2012 semester, students in Community Health conducted health promotion projects at three different venues.
- At the Fyle Elementary School in Henrietta, students taught dental hygiene classes to first grade students.
- At the Legacy in Henrietta and Penfield, students taught a group of older adults about the meaning of hypertention, the risk factors and the main strategies to control hypertention.
- In addition, students participated in Nazareth College's Health Fair conducting blood pressure and diabetic screenings along with teaching about both conditions.
