With a background in the Air Force and a passion for nursing, Candice is enthusiastic about her time at Nazareth. She was even gung ho—with military precision—when her fellow nursing students got their new scrubs.
"I'm probably the only person who starched her scrubs on the first day, but at least I didn't shine my shoes!" she joked. "The uniform is an extension of who you are, and I feel proud to be one of Nazareth's nursing students."

Q & A With Candice
How did you choose your major?
Originally I was thinking about biology education, but I decided to change my major because I had doubts about teaching high school. You need to have a calling for your career. I really love taking care of people, so nursing seemed like a better option for me.
How smooth was your transfer to Nazareth?
Transferring was simple. A counselor in admissions did my interview, and she called to give me updates as the process moved along. Then she called to tell me I was admitted and that I could come pick up my welcome packet. When I went into the admissions office, she saw me and hugged me. She was so happy for me that it was like she was the one being admitted. There's a strong sense that all the people at Naz are sharing the experience with you.
What's your advice for other transfer students?
Ask the questions and do the legwork. You can't be a spectator in your own life, so don't be scared of the financial aid office. The people there are awesome. And don't be shy about going to the Academic Advisement Center, because the staff is so helpful. Even the bookstore guy is great! It's like every office on campus has its arms out ready to help you.
What's cool about your nursing classes?
Every class I'm in now is concerned with different cultures. We're taking into consideration socioeconomic status, we're thinking about different ethnicities, and we're learning how to work with all kinds of patients. Because I've lived so many places in the world, I'm loving that.
What do you do with your friends in the Nursing program?
Jessica came to my dojo for karate. We're going to Katie's for "wine and whine" on Friday. We go to soccer games together, we study together, and we go running together. We have lunch together every day. When we're all there, there's not a table big enough to seat us.
Is your military background an advantage in nursing?
Guess what? Nurses use military time. We have a quiz about that on Friday. Can you believe it? I don't have to study for that one!
