Level I: Beginner Italian Language & Culture
Thursdays | Instructor: Sydney Lambert | 6 – 8 PM | Room TBD
The goal of this course is to develop students’ basic communicative competence through reading, grammatical exercises, and oral participation. Students will be able to handle uncomplicated communicative situations and survive in the target culture. Conversational topics will include every day activities, short discussion of assigned material, as well as recreating restaurant situations and other events.
Italian for Travelers
Thursdays | Instructor: Daniel Speciale | 6 – 8 PM | Casa Italiana
Basic knowledge of Italian or completion of Italian Level I is recommended.
In this course you will learn some of the basics of how to communicate in Italian, with an emphasis on things like directions, making plans, ordering food, etc. You will also be introduced to the various regions of Italy, and will have an opportunity to study some cities and regions in more depth. You will learn through online and in-class activities, dialogues, role play, video clips, etc. Students will learn the foundation of the language in order to be able to communicate while traveling abroad. They will also have a chance to practice their presentation skills along with learning about various towns "off the beaten path" in Italy. Course materials will be provided by the instructor.
Level II: Intermediate Low Italian Language & Culture

In this course, students will continue learning about the structure and aspects of the Italian language. The focus of this course is to review intermediate grammar structures, as well as expand vocabulary and comprehension skills through the analysis of authentic cultural materials. The goal of this course is to help students find balance between understanding the important aspects of grammar, as well as develop language skills and vocabulary that one is likely to use in the real world. Basic knowledge of Italian or completion of Italian Level I is recommended.
Level III: Intermediate High/Advanced Italian Language & Culture
Tuesdays | Instructor: Gianpaolo Alexander | 6 – 8 PM | Casa Italiana
This course expands on the language skills mastered in Levels I and II. There will be a review of basic and complex grammatical and pronunciation patterns, intensive vocabulary expansion through literary and non-literary readings, and extensive conversation and writing practice. Intermediate knowledge of Italian or completion of Italian Level II is recommended.
Level IV: Advanced Conversation & Composition
Mondays | Instructor: Daniel Speciale | 6 – 8 PM | Casa Italiana
This course is meant for those who already have a fair understanding of the language and its structure. The course will focus on the spoken language, and encourages rapid mastery of the basic structures and vocabulary of contemporary Italian. Italian will be used exclusively in class focusing on dialogue situations which will build skills in personalized contexts. Conversations will be fostered through the use of popular music, art, cinema, regional cuisine and from everyday Italian life and culture.
Italian Literature
Thursdays | Instructor: Dr. Maria Rosaria Vitti Alexander | 6 – 8 PM | Online
In this course, we will be focusing on a more advanced understanding and comprehension of the language through literature. Class time will be focused on reading and discussing a book as a group, as well as reviewing complex grammatical structure and rules.
