    Spotlight

Babacar FallBabacar Fall, Professor at Université Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Sénégal

Senegalese professor Babacar Fall recently lectured at Nazareth about “Youth in Africa: Challenges and Hopes for the Future.” Fall is a passionate advocate for gender equality in francophone West Africa, most recently completing a commission with the United Nations to study youth issues. Students from Dr. Mireille Le Breton’s class interviewed Fall on gender equality and education in his home country.  Read the interview with Professor Fall.

    Why Choose Nazareth for French?

The study of French at Nazareth College is not simply about conjugating verbs or sitting in language labs. It is an immersive experience where students study French culture and literature, enjoy trips to Montreal, cook Breton-style dinners, and spend a year in Rennes, France.

At the heart of the program is Maison Française, a residential hall for thirteen students interested in the French language and the Francophone culture, and a cultural meeting place for Le Cercle Français (the French Club), for L' Alliance Française de Rochester, and for the Francophiles in the Rochester community. Movies, dinners, lectures, theatrical readings, or exhibits are held there regularly to enrich the student experience. For the past ten years, several Nazareth students have also been the recipients of a tutorial scholarship or a teaching assistantship in Votré, France. Ninety percent of our students are accepted to graduate school.

    Program Highlights

    • Nazareth offers an academic year in Rennes, France in affiliation with the Université de Haute-Bretagne. (Study abroad is required of all foreign language majors.)
