What is Summer Start?

The Nazareth Summer Start Program is a guided summer experience designed to give incoming Nazareth students a jump start on living and learning in the college environment. Students will take 6 college credits while living in the Residence Hall, participate in activities designed to acclimate them to the campus and Rochester area and will have available to them mentoring and tutoring to assist in the academic and personal transition to college life.

 

When is the Summer Start program?

Summer Start will be held from July 1  to August 9, 2012.

 

What courses will be offered?

  • Academic & College Success 100:  College Academic Skills
  • Career Development 101:  Exploring Self, Majors, and Careers
  • Chemistry 140:  Molecules, Matter, and Mayhem
  • English 101:  College Writing
  • English 140:  Short Story
  • History 205:  American Republic I
  • Math 101:  Introduction to Math Skills
  • Math 102:  Thinking Mathematically
  • Music 102:  Intro to the Language of Music
  • Political Science 101: Introduction to Political Science
  • Psychology 102:  Intro to Psychology
  • Science 111:  Understanding Our Environment

How much does this program cost?

The cost of attendance for the Summer Start program is based on financial eligibility. Please contact Samantha Veeder, Director of Financial Aid, at (585) 389-2310 for more information.

What does a typical week look like?

The Summer Start program not only offers a variety of course options, but many social activities and workshops as well. Below are examples of some of the social activities and workshops that were offered during previous summers. To view a sample schedule, please click here.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES: Some of the past social activities offered included:

  • Taste of Rochester Trip (Planetarium, Art Gallery, Restaurant, etc.)
  • Walk to Local Attractions (Erie Canal & Pittsford Village)
  • Sporting Event Outings (Red Wings baseball game)
  • Theme Park Day (Darien Lake)
  • On Campus Activities & Events
  • Community Service Outings

WORKSHOPS: Some of the past workshops offered included presentations by departments such as:
