At its September premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Lighthouse/Lightning Rod, the latest collaboration created by Garth Fagan with Wynton Marsalis was met with critical acclaim and standing ovations from audiences moved by its power, which included evocative set pieces by Alison Saar, renowned sculptor and graphic artist.
Lighthouse/Lightning Rod will get its Rochester debut as part of Garth Fagan Dance’s November performances at Nazareth College Arts Center, and become part of the Company’s international touring repertoire in 2013 and beyond.
The Nazareth performances open Tuesday evening November 27 and run through Sunday, December 2, with family matinees on Saturday, December 1 and Sunday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m. These matinees will also feature performances by Garth Fagan School of Dance students.
Of special note is an Artist Conversation with Garth Fagan and Alison Saar, moderated by Ruth Fine, retired curator of special projects in modern art at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. The talk will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29 in the Peace Theater (room A14) in the lower level at Nazareth College Arts Center. It is part of the Arts Center’s current featured exhibit, Contemporary African American Printmakers, presented in collaboration with Deborah Ronnen Fine Art.
