The Shannon Lecture Series
The William H. Shannon Chair in Catholic Studies at Nazareth College presents ...
In Dialogue with Our World
Expressing solidarity with the whole human family and embracing "the joys and hopes" of humankind, the Second Vatican Council envisioned "a real social and cultural transformation" and urged dialogue with our world to foster mutual understanding and human development.
Our speakers have heeded that call to dialogue, engaging theology in conversation with other disciplines—science, economics, sociology—to address the urgent questions and issues facing us today. Their work invites us all to consider how we view the world and ourselves in it, how we live in times of economic crisis, how we respond to the realities of migration and the needs of refugees, and how we allocate resources to promote the full flourishing of all persons.
Our distinguished speakers have lectured nationally and internationally. Their books have been translated into many languages. They have been honored for outstanding achievements in their fields. Now it is our honor to welcome John. F. Haught, William T. Cavanaugh, Daniel G. Groody, C.S.C., and Christine E. Gudorf to Nazareth College and the Shannon Chair podium.
Please join us in welcoming to Nazareth College our distinguished speakers:
