Taking that First Step into Blackboard

Take that first step towards building your courses in Blackboard. Whether you are brand new to this course management system or are ready to try out some new features, this workshop will provide examples and guided hands-on experience in constructing your course.

This workshop will be a hands-on introduction to using Blackboard:

  • The first 45 minutes will provide you with demonstrations of the basic features to get you started
  • The second 45 minutes will be dedicated to working on your course with guidance from the instructor
  • Ample question and answer time will be provided

 

Blackboard: Linking Assignments and the Grade Center

Learn how to post any assignment and all related course materials in Blackboard. Then find out how the Grade Center can help you manage your assignments, organize and calcultate your grades, and communicate this to your students.

  • The first 45 minutes will provide you with demonstrations of the basic Grade Center and Assignment features
  • The second 45 minutes will be dedicated to working on your course with guidance from the instructor
  • Ample question and answer time will be provided

Introduction to the Smartboard

Smartboard interactive whiteboards are now installed and available for use in many classrooms and computer labs on campus.

This workshop will be a hands-on introduction to using a Smartboard as an instructional tool, featuring:

  • Learning the basics of operating a Smartboard in a computer lab or Smartroom
  • Learning to use your existing programs and enhance them with the tools that a Smartboard provides
  • Learning about the Notebook software program that is provided for all Nazareth College users to create and/or modify lessons and presentations
  • A session on using the Notebook software to create lessons and presentations immediately follows this session, or can be scheduled at a later date

 

Using the Notebook Software for Smartboards

The Notebook software that comes with the Smartboard is free and available to any Nazareth faculty or staff member. Notebook software enables you to create lessons that utilize the full capabilities of the Smartboard as an instructional tool.

This workshop is intended for anyone who has received initial training on the Smartboards. We will focus on:

Taming Zimbra: Options and Settings

Do you still find using Zimbra awkward or some features frustrating?

This workshop will be a general overview of Zimbra, featuring:

  • Customizing your Zimbra email account to be more efficient
  • Setting your options and settings to fit your needs
  • Learning some helpful hints that will make Zimbra more effective for you

 

A Date with Zimbra: Calendars and Appointments

Still using a paper calendar and appointment book?

This workshop will focus on the Zimbra Calendar, featuring:

  • Managing your personal calendar
  • Creating multiple calendars for your various roles
  • Sharing your calendar with others
  • Setting up a meeting and sending invitations through your calendar
  • Printing daily, weekly or monthly calendars

 

Who's Who in Zimbra: Address Books

Having trouble finding people and addresses in Zimbra?

This workshop will focus on the Address Books, featuring:

  • Understanding the various address books, groups and contacts
  • Having addresses added automatically to your contacts
  • Creating multiple address books
  • Sharing your address books
  • Creating your personalized contact groups (distribution lists)
  • Taking advantage of automated features in the address books

 

The Zimbra Diet : Archiving Mail to Manage Your Quota

Watching that little blue quota bar grow and grow despite deleting old mail?

This workshop will focus on archiving your mail, featuring:

  • Organizing your Zimbra account with folders
  • Planning the way in which you would like to store mail in an archive
  • Using a storage device or hard drive to store archived mail
  • Cleaning out what you no longer need to quickly access in your account
  • Using your folders to help make your daily Zimbra experience more organized and efficient

Webfiles : Making Links for Listserves (Windows only)

When sending a document through a listserve, it must be sent as a link, not an attachment. Creating a webfile enables you to send large documents to large lists of people. This workshop will focus on:
