Session #1: “All Courses are Created Equal”
Dates and Times:
Tuesday, 9/15/09 12:10pm - 1:10pm
Wednesday, 9/16/09 2:35pm - 3:35pm
Thursday, 9/17/09 9:30am - 10:30am
*Evening Session can be scheduled upon request
Every Blackboard course at Nazareth is created with the same basic shell, save for the tools built into it. Beyond that, it is a fresh canvas.
Most instructors manage to post their course information within the basic shell, but are either unaware of the many options available or find it too confusing or time consuming to make the effort to customize.
This session will show you how very easy it is to completely redesign your courses, not only to make them more aesthetically pleasing but, more importantly, to make the structure of your Blackboard courses more closely aligned to the way in which you teach.
In this session we will cover:
- Adding a Course banner for your course (more eye catching and unique)
- Creating a new course menu (you do not have to have purple rectangles!)
- Redesigning the look of the course (rather have a list than buttons?)
- Remove unused tools from your course to make it less confusing
- Making the course more user friendly for your students and yourself!
Even if you have your course up and running, you can apply these techniques without interfering with your present course, or practice setting them up in a practice sandboxsite (a free gift to attendees!) and use them next semester.
*If you would like to attend but can only do so in the evening, please contact me at: pmonach3@naz.edu and I will set up an evening workshop if there is sufficient interest.

Session #2: “Mastering the Grade Center ”
Dates and Times:
Thursday, 10/1/09 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Tuesday, 10/6/09 noon - 1:00pm
Wednesday, 10/7/09 9:30am - 10:30am
The Grade Center feature in Blackboard can be a challenge to set up. However, the effort is well worth it and will save you time in the long run. Every course shell is created with your entire enrollment preloaded, the rest is up to you.
In this session we will look at the basic Grade Center functions and explore how you can automatically link assignments to the grade center, manage submissions, customize your grading schema, set up weighted grading, and answer the questions you have about the Grade Center. At this session we will also schedule a follow-up individual consultation to help fine tune your grade center.
Don't wait until next semester. You can set up and modify your Grade Center at any time. And your students will thank you for giving them online access to their grades as they become available in their Grade Center in Blackboard.
