The final concert in this year's Celebration of Schumann series will be an especially memorable one. A special talk will be offered by neurosurgeon Dr. Robert S. Bakos, focusing in depth on Schumann's complex medical history and its relationship to his work and ultimately his demise.
The musical program will feature a complete performance of the beloved Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood) with a unique perspective of alternating the original solo pieces with insightful transcriptions of them for string quartet. The seldom-heard vocal quartet, Spanisches Liederspiel (Spanish Songbook), will be presented. And the magnificent Quintet for piano and strings will bring the series to a musical close. The final tribute and remembrance of Robert Schumann will be an invitation to the audience to sing "Happy Birthday" on this, his actual 200th birthday, and to enjoy a piece of birthday cake!
