New York Times best-selling author Carole Boston Weatherford will visit Nazareth College on October 18, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Ms. Weatherford has been writing since first grade when she recited an original poem to her mother and has since authored 40 books, celebrating family stories, fading traditions and forgotten struggles.  Her books have won a Caldecott Honor, the Coretta Scott King Award, two Coretta Scott King Honors, the Lee Bennett Hopkins Award, the Jefferson Cup, the Carter G. Woodson Award from National Council for the Social Studies, the NAACP Image Award and two North Carolina Juvenile Literature Awards.  Her best-known titles include Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom; Becoming Billie Holiday; Birmingham, 1963 Before John Was a Jazz Giant: A Song of John Coltrane; and Freedom on the Menu: The Greensboro Sit-Ins. 

A professor at Fayetteville State University, Ms. Weatherford is a recipient of the North Carolina Award for Literature, the state’s highest civilian honor.
