The Nazareth College Nursing Club and the Rochester Area Birth Network are teaming together to present a private film screening of "Birth Story: Ina May Gaskin & The Farm Midwives."

BIRTH STORY captures a spirited group of women who taught themselves how to deliver babies on a 1970s hippie commune, rescued modern midwifery from extinction, and changed the way a generation thought about childbirth. Today, as nearly 1/3 of all U.S. babies are born via C-section, they labor on, fighting to preserve their knowledge and pushing, once again, for the rebirth of birth.

With incredible access to the midwivesʼ archival video collection, the film not only captures the unique sisterhood at The Farm Clinic, but shows childbirth the way most people have never seen it--unadorned, unabashed, and awe-inspiring.

This independent film won the prestigious Audience Award at the 2012 LA Film Festival. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion of local birth professionals. Refreshments will be served, in addition to a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction of local merchants. All proceeds will benefit the Nazareth College Nursing Club and Childbirth Connection, a nonprofit organization to improve the quality and value of maternity care.
