Project VET CONNECT-ED is designed to provide supportive services and information in order to increase the rate of veteran students in the Rochester area who are prepared to apply for and succeed in college, with a priority on economically challenged veteran families. Additional emphasis will be placed upon providing career-enhancing services through the establishment of veteran student–specific co-op and internship experiences with the help of the Rochester Regional Veterans Business Council.
VOC is organizing a number of Project VET CONNECT-ED outreach information sessions for military veterans and their families over the coming months. The first Project VET CONNECT-ED outreach event is scheduled for Monday, February 7, 2011, with activities running from 1:00-7:00 PM at Nazareth College.
Each Project VET CONNECT-ED outreach event will include informational workshops and an expo where reps from area colleges, Veterans Outreach Center, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, and other community support services will be on hand to answer veterans’ questions. VOC believes that these sessions will provide a one-stop opportunity for veterans to get information on choosing a college, the application process, financial aid, the Post-9/11 GI Bill and other veterans’ benefits.
The workshops offered at the first session will be presented twice, consecutively, to allow more veterans and their family members the opportunity to attend. The first session will last from 1:00-4:00p.m.; the second will last from 4:00-7:00p.m. The expo portion of the event will be open throughout both workshops.
