    Why Choose Nazareth for English?

The Nazareth College Literature Program invites students to explore the power of the word. This innovative program exposes students to a variety of contemporary and classical literature, from Milton to Maya Angelou. While providing an intensive background in literature, the English curriculum is rooted in the broader liberal arts tradition. The program encourages and enriches students by allowing them to view literature across disciplines and to examine the historical and cultural significance of texts. Thus, our graduates develop a well-rounded appreciation for the beauty of language and literature.

    The Department

The Nazareth English Department faculty reflects the diversity offered by its curriculum. Specialists in many different fields of study, our faculty members take pride in teaching a wide selection of required and elective courses.

All full-time faculty members hold the highest degrees in their fields, and many have been teaching at Nazareth for more than twenty years. These dedicated professionals are always available for one-on-one meetings with students, and their small classes, usually discussion based, ensure an intimate learning experience.

    Related Programs

Students in the Nazareth College Program in Literature can choose from a wide variety of academic options. The flexibility of the curriculum allows them to study ancient religions or computer programming, environmental science or Japanese. By taking courses that complement their work in the Literature major, these students enhance their knowledge base and develop practical skills--skills that lead to career success.

Literature students can choose to minor in specialized fields at the forefront of current theory and practice. They can tackle gender questions in the Women's Studies Program or explore new traditions through Multicultural Studies.

Some students enrolled in the Literature Program choose to pursue New York State Elementary or Secondary Certification in English, offered in conjunction with the Nazareth College Education Department. Nazareth English Education students study literature and composition in-depth, while pursuing additional course work in current educational methodology.

Our English Education graduates are well-rounded and have the exceptional skills, creativity, and flexibility required to face the challenges of the classroom in the twenty-first century.
