Program Overview
The Gifted and Talented Extension Program is an offering of the Department of Inclusive Childhood Education. This nine-credit hour graduate level program is designed for certified teachers who are interested in working with students who are gifted and talented, and would like to receive an extension certificate in this area. This program is also available to graduate students in teacher education programs at Nazareth College.
The program focuses on deepening teachers' understandings of students with gifts and talents, of designing curriculum and differentiated learning experiences for students with gifts and talents, and of gifted education in the context of school organization and community.
Certification
Teachers who successfully complete this program will receive an extension on their New York State Teacher Certification.
Field Placement Experiences
Fifty hours of field work focusing on students with gifts and talents is required. For more detailed information about field placements visit the Office of Field Placement Services.
Admissions
The admissions requirements for the Gifted and Talented Education program include:
- Enrollment in a Master of Science in Education degree program at Nazareth College
OR
- Completed Approval Form
- Copy of your teacher certification in Education
- Completion of the personal/professional statement describing your reasons for undertaking this extension
